MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN NOVA SCOTIA

Making A Difference In Nova Scotia

ABOUT MAHONE BAY

Mahone Bay is a coastal town, home to beautiful waterfront views, trails, and beaches. Its picturesque qualities and charm make it a hotspot for seasonal tourists. Just offshore resides the Mahone Bay Islands, many of which are home to year-round residents and seasonal cottage dwellers. The South Shore consists of unique, fragile habitats that are home to hundreds of native terrestrial and marine wildlife. From rocky shores and tidal flats, to wetlands and mature forests, this variety in landscape supports a high biodiversity of both plant and animal species, including puffins, eagles, and even the endangered Roseate tern. The ecological richness of this area is invaluable, recently identified as a priority place by Environment & Climate Change Canada, and is what Coastal Action is dedicated to protect through research, education, action, and community engagement. For this BlueCommunites location, we are proud to partner with Coastal Action.

OUR PROJECTS

We are honored to support the following project of Coastal Action:

COASTAL ACTION´S OCEAN FRIENDLY NOVA SCOTIA

Coastal Action’s Ocean Friendly Nova Scotia (OFNS) program is a voluntary program that recognizes businesses reducing single-use plastics in their daily operations. The program uses a tiered recognition system (bronze, silver, gold) to acknowledge efforts of eliminating eight categories of single-use plastics at their establishments. The program encourages the elimination of single-use plastics at cafes, restaurants, and food service establishments, by providing support, consultation, and recognition for positive changes. Whether a business has already eliminated, or is working to eliminate these single-use plastics, the OFNS program provides resources and access to alternatives to assist in this transition.
