Come out this August 11 in Charlotte, NC to support Plastic Oceans! As part of our global charity initiative, Million 4 a Million, “The Last Straw” will benefit Plastic Oceans. Plastic Oceans is an organization dedicated to informing the public and inciting change around the plastic epidemic plaguing our oceans.

Eating Up Easter to be shown at the Asian American Film Festival in New York

Native Rapanui (Easter Island) filmmaker Sergio Mata’u Rapu narrates to his son the modern dilemma of their people who risk losing everything to the globalizing effects of tourism.

The film follows four islanders, descendants of the ancient statue builders, who are working to tackle the consequences of their rapidly developing home. Mama Piru leads recycling efforts to reduce trash, Mahani and Enrique use music to reunite their divided community, and Sergio tries to understand the motivations of his father who embraces the advantages of building new businesses.

These stories intertwine to reveal the complexities of development and the contradictions within us all as we are faced with hard choices about our planet’s future.

On Saturday, April 27 Plastic Oceans International Head of Operations and Communications Tod Hardin will be attending the Annual Clean-Up of the Belle Isle State Park in Detroit Michigan. Stop by and lend a helping hand and ask Tod how you can get involved as a volunteer with our organization.

8 am check in.

Event runs until 12 pm. Lunch to follow.

Park fees are waived for volunteers.
