Join us on an eco adventure to the Tofino region of British Columbia’s majestic Vancouver Island. It’s five days of exploration and education, led by Plastic Oceans Canada and Surfrider Foundation, with the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve as the backdrop. Partners include Parks Canada and Cedar Coast Field Station.

5-DAY ITINERARY

Day 1

  • Depart Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal (Subject to Change)
  • Pick up from Tofino (3 trips)
  • Orientation, unpack, settle in
  • Sustainability talk and tour / Introduction to research projects at Cedar Coast Field Station (1-2hr)
  • Dinner
  • Evening movie screening from Plastic Oceans on solutions to waste plastic
  • Free Time/Campfire

Day 2

  • Breakfast
  • Microplastics survey @ Keltsmaht Beach – Facilitated by Cedar Coast Field Station staff (3 hr)
  • Lunch
  • Split into 3 groups and rotate between:
    • Plankton tow and microscope analysis
    • Biodiversity survey Stream-keeping and Freshwater invertebrates
    • Group discussion on how to eliminate plastics our daily lives
  • Dinner
  • Free time/campfire

Day 3

  • Breakfast
  • Day trip to Hot-springs Cove
  • Wildlife viewing, naturalist tour
  • Lunch on boat
  • Dinner
  • Evening Discussion on ocean currents, how plastic travels through the sea with tide/wind/current

Day 4

  • Breakfast
  • Depart to Tofino
  • Surf Lesson with Pacific Surf School
  • Lunch at the beach
  • Presentation from Surfrider Pacific Rim on local action and plastic minimization programs
  • Pick-up from Tofino
  • Dinner
  • Evening discussion on how waves are made and how ocean swells contribute to plastic traveling in the ocean.
  • Free time/campfire

Day 5

  • Breakfast
  • Depart Cedar Coast Field Station
  • Parks Canada excursion in Pacific Rim National Park with Interpreter. (2.5 hr)
  • Lunch at Green Point
  • Depart for Ferry
  • Arrive Tsawwassen ferry terminal 8:00 p.m. Subject to Change

PRICING

Early Bird: $1,400 USD** (full payment by Jan 1, 2020)

Regular: $1,600 USD**(full payment after Jan 1, 2020, due 3 months prior to start date of trip)

$500 USD down payment to reserve your trip
