ABOUT LA SERENA

La Serena is a coastal town in northern Chile and is the second oldest city in all of the country, having been founded in 1544. It’s an important tourist destination, especially during the summer, where people go in droves to visit the beautiful beaches and enjoy the stunning landscapes. It’s one of the fastest growing regions in Chile, and thus waste management is an issue that needs improving, with drought also being a major problem.

OUR LOCAL PARTNER

Olas Limpias is a regional entity formed by surfers that seeks to protect and enhance the natural heritage of the coastline. Uniting environmental education with sports, they seek to raise awareness in the community by teaching love for the sea through the practice of surfing “Surf Coin”, in addition to influencing decision-making on coastal development.

OUR PROJECTS

We’re proud to be supporting the following projects of Olas Limpias:

PUNTA TEATINOS CONSERVATION PARK

Through the authorization and construction of a park, we seek to recover and protect the Punta Teatinos Wetland. A space of high biodiversity value designated “RAMSAR SITE” and a sports, scientific and tourist meeting point, which has been harmed by bad pollution practices, anthropic intervention and irregular extractive practices threatening the marine resource.

OLAS LIMPIAS SEAL

Clean Waves Surf Schools are schools that comply with actions and visions around social and environmental responsibility. This project seeks to implement, promote and encourage good practices in surf schools with whom we believe are ambassadors of change, children. Community work, beach cleaning, and correct waste management are some of these practices.
