Mark Minneboo
Director of Advocacy
Part of the Plastic Oceans team since 2017, in his role as Director of Advocacy Mark participates in workgroups and multilateral expert panels where he raises awareness about ocean plastic pollution and circular economy solutions. He works with companies, NGOs, government institutions and international embassies to generate a multisectoral collaborative network to manage a transition towards a circular economy. As a keynote speaker Mark has been representing Plastic Oceans International for over six years at conferences in Colombia, Uruguay, Mexico, South Korea, Germany, France and Portugal.
In 2021 he participated in an expert panel about a global plastics treaty at the IUCN conference in Marseille, France and in 2022 he organized a panel about the treaty the UN Ocean conference in Lisbon Portugal. He and his team lead the first National Dialogues for a global treaty on plastics in Chile also in 2022.
As an active member of his community he was a two time president of the local citizens ‘environmental committee and served one term on the advisory board of the Chilean Ministry of Environment. Since 2018 he has been part of the Circular Economy platform of the Americas, CEPA.
Mark had several years of experience in corporate marketing, before deciding to change his career course in 2015 and dedicating himself to environmental initiatives full time.
He is a Commercial Engineer who graduated from the NHTV University of Breda Holland and has a bachelor’s degree in education. Currently he is studying a MSc in sustainable development at the University of Sussex, UK. Originally a Dutchman, Mark settled in Chile 16 years ago.
