Beach Cleanup at Carter Nature Preserve, Maine

The Shaw Institute and Blue Hill Heritage Trust invite you to join us Saturday, September 24th from 2-4 pm for a Beach Cleanup Day at Carter Nature Preserve on the Cross Road in Surry. Be a part of Plastic Oceans International’s global event called the Trees and Seas festival, by helping to clean this beautiful property which is under conservation with BHHT. Plastic pollution and data collected from this event will contribute to scientific research done at the Shaw Institute using our new plastics analysis and identification instrument. Participants should arrive at 2:00 pm. We will provide materials and assign paired volunteers specific areas and duties including data collection.
Prizes will be awarded for fun categories and all participants will receive coupons for Pugnuts Ice Cream Shop as a special reward for a job well done. This event is family friendly. Please bring water bottles, wear durable work gloves, sunscreen and sturdy shoes. Registration is not required. Rain date, Sunday the 25th from 2-4pm.

Trees & Seas is an annual celebration, presented by Montes Wines and organized by Plastic Oceans International, uniting ocean and forest conservation worldwide. The official dates are September 16 – 25, with year-round programming. This year’s goals are to plant over 250,000 trees, cleanup over 20 million square feet of land and sea, educate over 100,000 kids, to go along with offering dozens of film screenings, workshops, panel discussions, live music and more.
