Special Guest Activities in Durban

Trees and Seas workshop

Join Breathe Ocean Conservation for a series of events and activities with special guests throughout the week in Beachwood Mangrove Reserve. This is an official prefestival event.

Monday 12th 
17:30: Community leader shares the little-known history of the Beachwood Mangrove Reserve.
18:30: CRABS! will talk about the huge variety of crabs and other invertebrates that thrive in the volatile mangrove forest.

Tuesday 13th
17:30: Janet from Adopt-A-River, tells us the success she and her team have had cleaning in the Umgeni Riveri and surrounds.
18:30: UKZN Camera-Trap Team. Photo evidence of the many unexpected visitors and VIPs who call the mangrove forest their home.

Wednesday 14th
17:30: Siphiwe Rakaabele shares his passion for the mangrove forest, reveals some of its secrets and tells us why it’s such a vital ecosystem to protect.

Friday 16th
17:30: Guided bird walk in Beachwood Mangrove Reserve.
18:30: Patricia from The Bat Interest Group of KZN tells us about these special nocturnal visitors.

Trees & Seas is an annual celebration, presented by Montes Wines and organized by Plastic Oceans International, uniting ocean and forest conservation worldwide. The official dates are September 16 – 25, with year-round programming. This year’s goals are to plant over 250,000 trees, cleanup over 20 million square feet of land and sea, educate over 100,000 kids, to go along with offering dozens of film screenings, workshops, panel discussions, live music and more.

Únete a Breathe Ocean Conservation para una serie de actividades durante la semana. Este es un evento oficial previo al festival de Trees & Seas.

Viernes 12 
17:30: Une líder comunitarie comparte la historia poco conocida de la reserva Beachwood Mangrove.
18:30: CRABS! hablará sobre la variedad de cangrejos y demás invertebrados que viven en el manglar.

Martes 13
17:30: Janet de Adopt-A-River, nos platica del éxito que ella y su equipo han tenido limpiando en el río Umgeni y sus alrededores.
18:30: Equipo de contenido de UKZN. Evidencia fotográfica de muchos visitantes inesperados de quienes habitan en el bosque.

Miércoles 14
17:30: Siphiwe Rakaabele comparte su pasión por el manglar, revela alguno de sus secretos y nos platica porqué es vital proteger el ecosistema.

Viernes 16
17:30: Tour guiado para observar pájaros.
18:30: Patricia de The Bat Interest Group de KZN nos cuenta sobre los murciélagos del manglar.

Trees & Seas es una celebración anual, presentada por Montes Wines y organizada por Plastic Oceans International, que une la conservación de los océanos y los bosques en todo el mundo. Las fechas oficiales son del 16 al 25 de septiembre, con programación durante todo el año. Los objetivos de este año son plantar más de 250,000 árboles, limpiar más de 20 millones de pies cuadrados de tierra y mar, educar a más de 100,000 niños, además de ofrecer docenas de proyecciones de películas, talleres, paneles de discusión, música en vivo y más.
