ABOUT CANTABRIA

Cantabria is a province located in the north of Spain on the coast of the Cantabrian Sea. It is characterized by its abundant nature due to the large amount of rain it receives throughout the year and its particular climate affected by the strong winds from the Atlantic Ocean. LOCAL PARTNER

Transformando Futuros

Transformando Futuros, mission is to promote processes of social transformation through education, culture and environmental care. The organisation works alongside its motto “transform the future, act in the present”, which is divided into three areas:

Education: Accompanying students and teachers to increase their knowledge of how their actions affect their environment.

Culture: Bringing knowledge about oceanic culture, from the point of view of understanding how our seas influence us and how we influence them, and motivating them to contribute with their voices through podcasts, stories and messages.

Environmental Care: The garbage that reaches the seas is generated mostly on land. We create awareness to reduce the waste that reaches the sea and promote actions such as cleaning the beaches or the reuse of marine garbage.

They strive to educate people about the crucial importance of the oceans and to engage them in the excitement and beauty of scientific research.

PROJECTS

We are proud to showcase and support the efforts of our local partner Transformando Futuros and their programs in Cantabria.

TRANSFORMING SEAS OF PLASTIC INTO CLEAN SEAS

The objective is to promote social transformations from the formal sphere, increasing knowledge about the impact of the pollution of our seas and motivating an active participation so that the educational community creates initiatives from the classrooms with an impact on their community.

The project contemplates a high component of creativity in the development of materials and methodologies, innovations such as the creation of jewelry from plastics collected on beaches or creating a podcast together with the students. Seeks to create Good Practices and networking.

It is developed with three educational entities in Cantabria: the Atalaya Santander school, the CEIP Marina de Cudeyo and the Roberto Orallo School of Art.

SEA-E EXPEDITION

From Transformando Futuros grew Expedition SEA-E, a project that acts against the current plastic pollution situation of our seas and oceans. SEA-E expedition is a zero waste sailing trip, which has left Spain, with the objective to know how things work in different parts of the world, clean the beaches where the expedition arrives, as well as discover the work of other people, communities and organizations. SEA-E works with 4 Rs for the sea: Collect, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

It consists of: Collecting all the plastic they can, Reduce or eliminate single-use plastic on board the sailboat, Reuse packaging in a creative way, and Recycle finally in their proper containers.
