ABOUT THE SEYCHELLES

The Seychelles is a country made up of 155 islands in the Indian Ocean at the eastern end of the Somali Sea. Nearby island countries and territories include the Comoros, Madagascar and Mauritius, among other French regions. Of the main environmental challenges facing Seychelles is the lack of flat land for development, as well as problems with water supply and sewage disposal. Despite this, Seychelles is one of the world’s leading countries in the protection of habitats for endangered species, with 42% of its territory allocated to conservation. Thanks to its efforts, the country is known for its success in protecting its flora and fauna. Despite huge disparities between nations, Seychelles claims to have achieved almost all of its Millennium Development Goals.

Our local ally from BlueCommunities is SEYNOPLASTIC, a local NGO dedicated to bring awareness about plastic and the change of habits around the island.

With the mission to make the Seychelles a leading, small island state with responsible behavior and responsible use and disposal of plastic waste, SeyNoPlastic is committed to supporting activities and promoting collective awareness, stimulating citizen responsibility to reduce single-use plastics, and protecting their national biodiversity and habitats. With the help of scientific evidence and educational material, they work to promote best practices among communities and youth engagement, raising awareness about the world-wide plastic addiction and the result unfolding environmental crises. .

OUR PROJECTS

We re proud to be supporting the following projects of SeyNoPlastic:

EDUCATION

Promote awareness campaigns aimed at the fishing sector, the diving association, the education, and other public and private sectors by carrying out education and information operations in the field, and promoting a charter of eco-behaviours in companies.

RECYCLING MACHINE

With the use of a recycling machine, set an example for plastic recycling in the country and to promote the principles of the circular economy, while integrating students from the Seychelles Institute of Technology in the planning and certification process of the recycling infrastructure, with the support of agencies from the Ministry of Industries.
