MAKING A DIFFERENCE ON THE MEDITERRANEAN COAST

ABOUT TARRAGONA

Tarragona is a tourist-friendly coastal region characterized by its long golden beaches, located in northeastern Spain, in the autonomous community of Catalonia, along the Dourada Coast. It offers plenty of Mediterranean coastline and is thus a location with a good climate and a wide range of water activities, including surfing, sailing and swimming. Like many communities along the Med, plastic pollution continues to be a major concern.

They are currently leading the investigation and reporting the presence of pellets on the Tarragona coast. Plastic pellets, also known as nurdles or mermaid’s tears, are small spheres that are used as a raw material in the manufacture of almost all plastic items. Due to their small size (usually less than 5 mm) and poor practices, pellets are often “lost” at all stages of the plastic production and distribution chain.
