MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN CENTRAL AFRICA

MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN CENTRAL AFRICA

ABOUT DOUALA

Douala is the largest city in Cameroon. With the largest sea port and international airport in Central Africa, it also serves as the commercial and economic capital of the entire region. This tropical city of 2.8 million people sits on the estuary of the Wouiri River and directly on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.

We are fortunate to work with a great local NGO partner that is advocating for sustainable community practices and better waste management: Environment & Food Foundation.

LOCAL GOALS

• Plastic waste reduction
• Circular economy waste management practices
• Increase sustainable and dignified jobs
• Increase community education on plastic and circular waste management

UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

LOCAL PARTNER

EFF logoEnvironment & Food Foundation (E2F) has a mission to promote sustainable use and management of marine and aquatic ecosystems of mangroves, wetlands, lakes, rivers, streams and Oceans. They envision a reality where every individual has the opportunity to contribute to the socio-economic development of their communities, has access to sufficient quantity of affordable nutritious food, and has the right mind set to live in harmony with nature (our blue planet).

OUR PROJECTS

In Partnership With Environment & Food Foundation (E2F)

PLASTIC REDUCTION

Poor waste management is leading to increased plastics ending up in the environment in Cameroon. Plastic Oceans is supporting the E2F effort to collect and recycle plastic waste with a traceable social and environmental impact. Their innovative approach seeks to strengthen the plastic supply and value chains, create new jobs, as well as relieve their community from plastic pollution.

CONSERVATION & RESTORATION OF MANGROVE ECOSYSTEMS

Biodiversity within the land and marine ecosystems of the Douala-Edea National Park are at risk. They are under threat from the agro, oil, fishing and mining industries, in addition to the use of wood for fuel. E2F is working to conserve and restore the mangroves through replantings, education, cleanups, promotion of agroforestry and eco-friendly tourism.
