The first meeting (INC1) took place in November 2022, in Punta del Este, Uruguay and the second (INC2) held in Paris, France in May/June 2023. Over the last several years, there have been good efforts and well-intentioned solutions implemented by citizens, civil society, governments and corporations to address the impacts of plastic pollution. However, without a concerted global framework to follow, national and local efforts are in isolation and insufficient to stem the tide of plastic pollution.
The objective of the global plastic treaty is to set global framework of standards around accountability, responsibilities, financing, material/chemical standards, import/export restrictions, targets. From this global framework, countries will be tasked with implementing globally aligned policies that meet the targets set.
PLASTIC OCEANS INTERNATIONAL ROLE
Plastic Oceans International primary mission is to promote the development of sustainable communities on a global scale, with the overarching goal of eradicating plastic pollution. To accomplish this objective, we employ an innovative approach (Film-Activism Model) where we use modularized film education, which serves as a powerful tool to bridge knowledge gaps, and actively collaborate with communities to identify solution barriers.
