December 15, 2018 – Malibu, CA – The following statement is from Tod Hardin, Head of Operations & Communications for Plastic Oceans International, about the announcement of Secretary Ryan Zinke departing from the U.S. Department of the Interior at the end of the year:

“Zinke’s departure is seemingly a win for our oceans and our entire environment. His ongoing efforts to provide energy, mining and commercial fishing companies, expanded access to our public lands and waters—including the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument —have been alarming at the highest levels. But let’s be cautious before claiming victory, as his replacement is likely to not fall far from the tree of Trump.”
