Minimized Packaging, Lightweight Bottles, Labels Made From 100% Recycled Paper, and Vegan Certified

Malibu, CA, May 4, 2021 – Treasury Wine Estates (TWE) has introduced a new ethically minded, on-trade exclusive range of Vegan certified wines to provide consumers with a sustainable choice on wine menus.

Coastal Reserve, which has a premium look and feel, has been designed to appeal to an increasing pool of consumers who seek environmentally friendly products and brands that have a purpose. The range of wines are Vegan with sustainability at the core.

TWE Coastal Reserve winesCoastal Reserve has partnered with not-for-profit organisation, Plastic Oceans Europe, to focus on raising awareness around its sustainable efforts and take a step in the right direction to reducing plastic pollution. The range will be launching with Molson Coors Beverage Company.

TWE has consciously made supply chain and packaging choices to minimise environmental impact, when creating Coastal. This includes sourcing and shipping European wines in bulk to minimise shipping miles and emissions, and using light-weight bottles and labels made from 100% recycled paper.

Tony Watson, Commercial Director UK & Ireland at Treasury Wine Estates, says: “2020 was an incredibly challenging year for the hospitality sector and this has had a big impact on how operators plan ahead, particularly when it comes to making decisions on what to stock. It is vital as a supplier, more so now than ever, to offer something that will bring quality messaging to a drinks’ menu, that resonates well with consumers and will remain front of mind for a return visit.

“We believe that with Coastal Reserve, we have a wine that really answers that need and will resonate with the ethically-minded consumer of today. Not only are the wines of premium quality, consumers can feel good about their choice too.

“61% of people living a vegan lifestyle have switched within the last three years and a fifth of them in the last year alone. Post-lockdown, many more consumers have been looking to brands that are sustainable and have a meaningful mission, with a third of consumers more likely to purchase a wine that supports a charity.”

The range will be launching with Molson Coors Beverage Company and features popular wine varietals from European regions including Merlot from Spain, Sauvignon Blanc from France and Pinot Grigio Rosato from Italy. The wines will be available in both 75cL and 187mL format.

TWE Coastal Reserve WinesTony Watson continues: “We are delighted to partner with Plastic Oceans Europe to help support and address important issues with plastic pollution and to launch this with Molson Coors.”

Julie Andersen, CEO, Plastic Oceans International, said: “We believe a world without plastic pollution starts with sustainability. Finding the right partnership is extremely important for us in order to maintain our core values without compromise. We are very excited to partner with Treasury Wine Estates and Coastal Reserve as they support ocean protection and make positive steps towards offering us sustainable lifestyle choices. It is together that we can better foster sustainable communities.”

Gary Keller, Wine Controller at Molson Coors Beverage Company, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Treasury Wine Estates to launch Coastal Reserve and further broaden our wine offering, which currently stands at a 750-strong range, with more than half of these being exclusive to the UK on-trade. Crucially for our customers, we’re seeing consumers increasingly looking for great tasting options that reflect their desire to consume more sustainably, and Coastal Reserve offers exactly that.

“As a brand, it resonates with us and our wider sustainability goals. In April, we removed plastic rings and introduced a fully recyclable and sustainable cardboard sleeve for multipack cans across all of our major brands. We also became the first major brewer to produce all of its beers and ciders using 100% renewable electricity, which will play an important role in helping us to meet our Imprint 2025 commitments.”
