Celebrating Earth Day during a pandemic was definitely a new experience for everyone. Normally, most of us would try to spend the day outdoors, appreciating nature and all that Mother Earth has to offer. It’s understandable then, that many of us probably find the current situation of being isolated less than ideal. However, there’s always another way of looking at things.

La gente está enferma y moribunda, los hospitales están abrumados hasta el punto del colapso, la economía está luchando y durará mucho tiempo … es intenso. All around the world we’re inundated with information regarding the COVID-19 global pandemic, and for a good reason. This is scary stuff. People are sick and dying, hospitals are overwhelmed to the point of collapse, the economy is struggling and will be for a long time … it’s intense. There’s a lot of good coming out of this as well though. Situations like this force us to stop and see what’s directly in front of us.

The Mediterranean is a beautiful part of the world, especially Barcelona. The weather’s incredible, the coastline’s gorgeous, the food’s fantastic, and so on. The same can be said for much of Europe, actually. That’s why so many people live here, and why so many people visit year-round. That’s also why it’s in such a sad state.

February 18, 2020 – MALIBU, Calif., U.S.A. – Plastic Oceans International, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to solving plastic pollution, today announced that it has expanded its operations to Europe, opening their newest branch office in Barcelona, Spain, as Plastic Oceans Europe.
